I was recently sifting through old journal entries and came across the following, which is still relevant today:
June 20, 2010
Today, I walked 10.2 miles in the blazing hot weather and then (as if that wasn’t enough), I headed for the gym and ran 4 miles hard on the treadmill, getting down to 6-minute-mile pace.
While I was at the gym on the treadmill, another guy got onto the treadmill next to me, and before he started running, he crossed himself and took a deep breath before beginning. I don’t know how far or how fast he was intending to run, but it made me think.
There I was, plugging away at sub 6:30 min/mile pace after already having completed 10+ miles worth of cardio; and here was some guy just praying to get through maybe 2 or three miles without stopping.
Whatever your goals are for your fitness, its always good to start off with baby steps and a little support from up above.*
